Garrick Hamm

Garrick is a multi-award winning designer & filmmaker with over three decades experience.
2022 Garrick begins a new creative chapter as an Independent film maker, for Brands, Bands, and clients and as a Creative consultant. His first appointment, is at at Big Fish, a 27 year old brand, design and marketing consultancy, where he is ‘Head of talent, fame and film.’
Garrick began his career in 1989 at Michael Peters & Partner as a junior and left five years later to help his then creative director Glenn Tutssel, set up his own shop with Martin Lambie Nairn.
A recruiter once told him early in his career, that his folio was too varied, not specialised enough. Determined not to be pigeon-holed, he joined Williams & Murray to form WMH and over the last 20 years helped take them from a packaging outfit, into a full service Branding Communications agency. He’s unsure what the recruiter is doing now.
With over 350 awards on their shelves, WMH accolades include D&AD Yellow Pencils, Gold Lions at Cannes, Art Directors, Type Directors and too many Clio’s to count. Garrick is a recovering awards junky.
In 2009 Garrick achieved his art school ambition of becoming President of D&AD.
While design was his first love, it was at Lambie Nairn’s he fell in love with moving image and storytelling,
The last decade he has been focusing on writing and directing short films, brand films, cinema commericals, collaborating with a team of world class talent. He is a very diverse director, working on; stop frame animation, CG animation, or live action, length is not important. It’s all about the story.
His film “The Man Who Married Himself” starring Richard E Grant, won the Best Comedy Award at the LA Shorts Festival and was screened at the BFI London Film Festival.
In 2014, his film, ""Retrospective"" with Charles Dance and collaborated again with cinematographer Michael Seresin (Angle Heart, Harry Potter, Gravity).
In 2018 saw Garrick make his final short film, ‘The Ghost’. Based on the true story of a boy’s search for his father, the legendary Spurs Number 8, John White (All films are available on Amazon video.)
More recently, Hamm was responsible for writing and directing the launch film for AMC, Andy Murray’s sportswear range in collaboration with sports brand Castore. In 2021 Garrick directed an epic animated Brand film for The Glenlivet Brand Home.
He is currently writing his debut feature film thriller, ‘Something to do with Gold’, based in South West France."
